The use of the Third Conditional
We use the Third Conditional to talk about things in the beyond happening otherwise from the way they really
passed off. This on occasion means criticizing people or pointing out their mistakes.
If you’d been a bit extra cautious, you wouldn’t have reduced yourself.
If Matthew had set his alarm clock, he wouldn’t have overslept.
We can also use this structure to apologize about the beyond.
If I hadn’t fallen ill and neglected the interview, I might have got the job
